It almost feels like giving birth except this gestation period was 22-months long. Today is a day of celebration for my family. The path that life takes us on is so amazing and the events that had to occur to present us with this business opportunity are great. But today, after all the steps and hours and decisions and waiting, our shipment has arrived and has passed all the federal inspections and we now are officially able to sell these great products to our celiac friends in the U.S. and Canada.
This journey has also reminded us about all the events that happen in our lives and the belief that everything happens for a reason. I first met this wonderful Norwegian family when I was an exchange student in high school. They are the same family who ended up introducing me to these incredible products after I was diagnosed with celiac disease several years later. And I met and married a man with a marketing background. It's easy to dream of starting a business, but watching him work these last months has taught me to respect what has to go into a successful business. I couldn't have done this without his knowledge.
So twenty-two months ago, after returning home from visiting my Norwegian host family, my husband was convinced that someone was selling these great products from Norway in the United States. We had just filled a suitcase with the bags of flour that I loved so much and my husband wondered aloud if there was an easier way (and cheaper way) to get these products delivered to my door. Little did he know what he started by uttering those words.
And at the risk of boring you all with too many details, I can say at this point, that the rest is history. But this path was not one I blazed alone. While we all know it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to start a business. My family has been one incredible village! From, cheerleading, baby-sitting, writing, dreaming and supporting, they've all been there every step of the way and for that, I say thank you!
And so we begin the next chapter of this venture. I hope you enjoy our products as much as I do. I'm working hard to create more recipes as well. Be sure to share your thoughts with me. I look forward to hearing from all of you.
