New Celiac Friends in Waterloo, IowaPosted by JennyBosking in Jenny Blog |
I made new friends yesterday AND I got to share my new products with a well-organized celiac support group in Waterloo, Iowa. It was a wonderful day and I got great feedback from the folks who attended. My mom went with me (Thanks, Mom!) and we sampled six different items: white bread, whole meal bread, lemon poppy seed bread, banana bread, yellow cupcakes and waffles.
Being that this was my first official group that I traveled to meet, it was quite an experience planning, baking, loading up the car and trying to remember all my items I needed. I did pretty well, I guess, only leaving behind a couple items that were easily improvised with other utensils. It will always be a great memory for me though. There aren't many people who get to start a new business and go on these adventures with their supportive and enthusiastic mom at their side. And my mind is now spinning with how I can do these samplings on a more regular basis.
As I told my story of discovering these items in Norway, a few heads were nodding in agreement. I later found out they had also been to Scandinavia and had had very similar experiences.
We also were able to sit and chat with folks about what foods they miss, how they were diagnosed, tricks they've discovered that work for them etc. I came home with many new recipe ideas including an intriguing recipe for bread pudding using our white bread. I'll let you know how it turns out.
And I must say that I perhaps have found a new best friend in the young lady who fell in love with our waffles and whole meal bread. I got no fewer than 5 hugs from her and too many smiles to count. And I guess that's what this venture is all about. I've said all along how discovering these products changed my life and now I look forward to seeing more smiling faces at each sampling event and perhaps even getting a few hugs along the way.
