Take, for example, my wonderful phone conversation I had on Tuesday with Cheryl Wilson, the group leader of the Southern Arizona Celiac Support Group. She is one of over 20 members of her family with celiac disease. I knew it was genetic, but that was an amazing number! There are definite benefits to having a family full of celiacs: no worries about getting sick at family dinners, relatives make a wonderful support group and everyone can play off each other's strengths. Cheryl Wilson's family has definitely used her strengths in leadership. By the looks of their website, Cheryl has really done some great things for the Southern Arizona group.
One of the neat events they have coming up is a Gluthen Free Food Faire on Saturday, May 10th. If you live near Tucson, you should definitely plan on attending. Not only will they have many vendors (including me!), but they will also be doing free celiac screenings on site. Go to their wonderful website which is http://www.southernarizonaceliacsupport.org/ and check it out.
